The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index climbed 9.88 points, or 0.33 pct to close at 2964.79, While the Shenzhen Stock Index gained 69.86 points, or 0.86 pct, to end the day at 8200.61.
Hong Kong hare prices closed lower as investors opted to lock in profits after yesterday's strong gains, while largely ignoring a better-than-expected outcome at today's government land auction.
The Hang Seng Index closed down 109.28 points or 0.56 pct at 19,333.14, off a low of 19,251.20 and high of 19,442.52.
Turnover was 42.30 bln hkd.
Japan
The Nikkei average snapped a three-day winning streak today, sliding 0.66 per cent in quiet trade as exporters such as Sony lost ground on continued concern about the outlook for the key US market.
The Nikkei fell 113.55 points to 17,178.84.
The broad TOPIX index fell 0.91 per cent to 1,725.43.
Australia
Share prices closed lower on broad selling, mirroring falls on Asian markets ahead of US economic data which are likely to determine the near-term direction of global markets.
The S&P/ASX 200 closed down 26.0 points or 0.44 pct at 5,865.0, off a high of 5,917.7 and a low of 5,860.9.
The All Ordinaries index ended down 24.1 points at 5,844.0.
